The mission of the South Carolina Gourd Society (SCGS) is educational in nature and accomplishes this by encouraging and supporting presentations, displays and seminars and by providing educational resources and exhibits. The SCGS has differing levels of creativity for young and old, creating one-of-a-kind pieces of art that started with the foundation of a seed, soil, nutrition, water, and a burst from the sun. Representing the South, we are proud to lift from natures own and place the fingerprints of the human soul upon it.
7TH ANNUAL GHOST CREEK GOURDFEST
Saturday, April 28, 2012
Laurens, SC
9 a.m. (registration starts 8 a.m.) to 5 p.m.
Sponsored by the South Carolina Gourd Society, Ghost Creek Gourd Farm, and TurtleFeathers
Plan on joining us for a day of fun, entertainment, and classes with the latest techniques in gourd art offered by some of the areas leading gourd instructors. We are offering eight classes, four each morning and afternoon. PLUS SCGS members receive a 10 percent discount!!! This applies to both new members who wish to join and current (or lapsed!) members wishing to renew along with class registration. This discount will not be offered on the day of classes so choose your classes and register early to ensure your spot and savings. All classes are being offered for $35 with $5 going to support SCGS activities.
Also this year, SCGS is hosting a Gourd Competition with categories for experienced and novice gourd artists. We are again offering a food tent with a variety of items, music and entertainment throughout the day, rides for the kiddies, and a kids area for the more creative. Our Make and Take event has been so popular that we are bringing that back again. This is a small project that can be done in fifteen to 20 minutes for a nominal fee. Be sure to check out that table area on the day of GourdFest. If you would like to donate an items to the Fund Raiser project (this is our largest fund raiser for SCGS) please contact Marianne Barnes. We appreciate any and all donations and they don’t have to be gourd related. Gift cards, unwanted craft items, of course gourds and gourd materials, etc. will all be enthusiastically accepted.
