Eligibility:
Open to members of the South
Carolina Gourd Society only.
Entry:
(A)
All
entries must remain throughout
the Show and are to be removed
Sunday,
October 5 between
2:00 and 4:00pm.
(B)
Three skill levels: Novice,
Intermediate and Open.
(C)
Judging will be done by a group
of individuals that are
knowledgeable about gourds
chosen by the SCGS with the
assistance of the American Gourd
Society. All decisions will be
final.
(D)
The
Show will be open to the public
from Monday, September
29-Sunday, October 5.
(E)
Identification tags will be
filled out and attached to
entries when it is entered in
the show on Saturday, September
27, 2008. Check-in is between
10am and 2pm. Nametags or
business cards will be placed
after the judging is completed.
The SCGS will take all
precautions to protect and
secure your entries but will not
be held responsible for damage
or theft.
FEES: $12.00
entry fee for each gourd artist
includes all entries. Make
checks payable to the South
Carolina Gourd Society. An
artist can pre-register by
September 19, 2008 by mailing
completed registration form and
check for $10.00 to Joanne
Crouch, 606 Neighbors Road,
Ward, South Carolina 29166.
Please have all pricing decided
before arriving at the show.
Show Awards
Each entry will receive a
Blue Ribbon,
Red Ribbon, or White Ribbon.
Cash prices will only
be paid on blue and red ribbons.
Best of Show- $50.00
Best in Design-
Novice-this is for
the gourd artist new to
competition-$20
Intermediate-this is
for gourd artist that have
competed before but never
received best of show-$20
Open-Intended for
advanced gourd artist that have
previously won top awards in
competitions-$20
Blue Ribbon-$5.00
cash award.
Red Ribbon-$3.00
cash award.
White Ribbon-$1.00
cash award
Categories:
(1)
Gourd Musical Instruments.
Includes, drums, rattles,
shakers, etc. Any techniques.
(2)
Pyrography
(Woodburning) No ornamentation
permitted. Clear finish
permitted only. May be whole or
cut gourd.
(3)
Pyrography
(Woodburning) Painting, dyes,
ink, etc allowed.
(4)
Carved/chiseled/gouged/filigree
gourd. All
techniques and embellishments
allowed. Clear finish, paint
or dye permitted. Whole or cut
gourd.
(5)
Painted gourds-No
other technique and no
ornamentation permitted.
(6)
Dolls- any size and
technique. Gourd must be
predominate.
(7)
Woven gourd basket-gourd
must predominate. Must have
handle. Material can be natural
(pine needles, vine, natural
color leather, feathers) or
manmade.
(8)
Woven gourd bowls
with natural plant/animal
weaving material (pine needles,
vine, natural color leather,
feathers, etc) or manmade
materials. Will not have
handle.
(9)
Gourd jewelry or wearable art-any
technique. May include
necklaces, earrings, purses,
etc.
(10)Birdhouse(functional) Gourd
entrance holes should be
appropriate sizes with drainage
and hanging holes.
(11)
Birdhouse (decorative)
Gourds must dominate. Any
technique allowed.
(12)
Gourd Christmas tree ornament-any
technique or size. Must include
a hanger.
(13)
Holiday themes,
Christmas only. Cut or whole
gourd.
(14)
Decorated dipper gourd.
Any technique. Cut or uncut
(15)
Gourd with inlay.
Any item may be inlaid into the
gourd shell. Inlay must
predominate.
(16)
Claywork but gourd
must dominate.
(17)
Holiday themes (not
Christmas)-any technique.
(18)
Animals only-any
technique allowed but gourds
must predominate.
(19)�Itsy-bitsy� gourd-gourd
must be no larger than 4 inches
(excluding stem) using any
technique. Will not be
penalized for stand or hanger.
(20)�Gourd
Gone Crazy�
category. Let your imagination
run wild. Any technique
allowed. This category is for
pieces that absolutely fit in no
other category.
